Välkommen till Alumndagen 2 oktober

Varmt välkommen till ALUMNDAGEN vid Uppsala Univeristet, 2 oktober

Som anställd vid Uppsala universitet har du förmånen att delta vid Alumndagen den 2 oktober. Ett utmärkt tillfälle för yrkesverksamma att skapa nya värdefulla kontakter. Träffa andra alumner* och ta del av deras kunskaper och erfarenheter.

"Swedish Culture in US Business Environment - what they didn't teach you at Uppsala University" är en av programpunkterna. Föreläsare är uppsalaalumnen Stefan Nilsson, i dag General Manager på Svenska Handelsbanken, New York Branch (föreläsningen ges på engelska).

Dagen erbjuder ett späckat program fyllt med intressanta föreläsare, forskarpresentationer, guidade turer, givande möten och mingel i Universitetshuset. Under dagen tillkännages även mottagaren av utmärkelsen Årets alumn 2012.

Who will be the 2012 Alumnus of the Year?

Take the opportunity to nominate the Alumnus of the Year at Uppsala University. The nomination criteria are the following:

• The alumnus is a good role model for current and future students
• The alumnus has excelled professionally or in other ways have made a valuable contribution after their studies
• The alumnus has completed at least one semester at Uppsala University

Nominations can be submitted by everyone associated with Uppsala University: students, staff, alumni and friends. The proposal must include the alumnus' name, qualifications and a brief explanation as to why he or she should be the Alumnus of the Year and contact information of the submitter.

Nominations must be submitted no later than 1 September to aretsalumni@uadm.uu.se. The Alumnus of the Year will receive the award at a ceremony in University Hall (universitetshuset) on 2 October during the national alumni week.

Mercury Magazine issue 1 out and online

The first printed issue of Mercury Magazine is out. Mercury is the official magazine of the Department of Business Studies. It is an attempt by the Department to engage in a dialogue and knowledge exchange with practitioners (including alumni), scholars and students (programme) in Sweden and abroad by sharing our knowledge.

Each issue is planned to focus on a particular area of interest connected to research conducted at the Department. Each special issue is also planned to have at least one feature article focusing on a leading scholar within the particular area of interest who is connected to the Department. We are therefore very proud the present an article on Professor Jannis Kallinikos of London School of Economics who in his research focuses on the social and economic development with information and communication technologies and the proliferation of information.

All the articles are also available freely online at www.fek.uu.se/mercury. Next issue of Mercury focuses on emerging markets and is out in late September.

Uppsala Lectures in Business 2012 - 26-27 September 2012

The Uppsala Lectures in Business 2012 are held on 26-27 September 2012. The guest this year is Shaker Zahra from Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota, US. Shaker A. Zahra is the Department’s Chair of Entrepreneurship and Professor of Strategy and Organization. His research focuses for instance on entrepreneurship and national policy in global technology-based industries.

Professor Zahra will give two guest lectures. The first on 26 September entitled “Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation” and the second on 27 September entitled “Entrepreneurship as Performing Art”.

Seminar on the increased autonomy of universities - 10 October 2012

Welcome to participate on a seminar on the topic of increased autonomy for universities and colleges. On 10 October, 2012, the Department of Business Studies in collaboration with FEKIS will hold the fourth seminar in the series about “The Controlled University”. The seminar will discuss the move of universities towards greater autonomy and the importance and implication for management and organization.

Alumni Business Meeting - 12 March 2012

We have the pleasure to invite you to the coming Alumni Business Meeting on 21 March. The meeting is hosted by EQT Partners AB and will take place in Stockholm. Speaker is Hans Ragnesjö, CFO who will provide us some insights on the private equity industry from a CFO’s and investor relations’ perspective.
