The research seminar in law and business: "Studying Swedish Courts Empirically"

Johan Lindholm, professor of Law at Umeå University, will be speaking on the topic “Studying Swedish Courts Empirically”.

Introduction

How have phenomena like judicialization, constitutionalisation, and Europeanization affected judges and courts? The presentation will cover tentative results of the interdisciplinary research project “Judicial Power and Power over the Judiciary”. By combining legal and political science theory, we will empirically explore the behavior of Sweden’s highest courts and judge, including their relationship to political institutions and development over time. These studies are based on data from the Swedish High Court Database (SeHC).
